In Texas, Camp Mystic faced a devastating flooding disaster that revealed the absence of a proper emergency response plan. Following this catastrophe, state lawmakers are now working on recommendations to strengthen disaster preparedness and enhance response measures. Nearly a year post-flooding, efforts are focused on better prediction and management systems to protect communities from similar tragedies in the future. As the Word says, “The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.” (Proverbs 22:3).

Lord, we come before You today, fully aware of our brokenness and vulnerability in the face of disaster. The floods have shown us how quickly safety can wash away, and how unprepared we can be in times of crisis. We ask for Your wisdom to guide our leaders in creating strong plans for times of trouble. Let them ensure our communities are ready to face the unexpected.

Comfort those who were affected by the devastation. Wrap them in Your arms and bring healing to their hearts. Give hope to those who feel lost. Help us all to learn from these experiences. Strengthen our resolve to protect one another and to prepare ourselves for whatever may come.

In Jesus’ name, amen.
