The news from southern Lebanon is heavy again. The UN reported this week that strikes over the weekend killed at least 13 people, including a child and four women, and wounded 32 more. A paramedic was killed when an ambulance was struck. Emergency workers have been hit while responding to earlier strikes. In one town that had refused evacuation orders, people were killed while distributing bread from a municipality vehicle to their neighbors. A ceasefire was announced last month. The wounding has not stopped.
UN News: Deadly weekend in Lebanon, continued violence in Gaza
“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me… Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.”
Matthew 25:35-36, 40 (ESV)
Father, the news is heavy this morning.
A paramedic was killed riding to help the wounded. Neighbors were killed driving bread to people who would not leave their homes. They were doing the things Jesus said you remember. Feeding the hungry. Tending the sick. And now they are gone.
We do not understand why bombs keep falling on a ceasefire. We do not understand why a town that asked for bread received fire instead. We bring it to you because we have nowhere else to bring it.
Be near to the families this morning, and comfort the medics who are still pulling people out of rubble and still climbing back into their ambulances. Give wisdom to the ones at the tables where these decisions get made, and turn their hearts toward peace.
Jesus, you said that when we feed someone hungry, we feed you. The people who died serving their neighbors were doing your work. Receive them with kindness. Tell them well done.
For those of us watching from far away, do not let our hearts grow cold. Help us pray. Help us not look away.
In Jesus’ name, amen.

https://gospelsgrace.com/prayers/2026-05-11-for-the-helpers-in-lebanon/
Praying for the grieving and for the ones who keep showing up with bread and bandages when the sky is not safe.
A Prayer for the Helpers in Lebanon
GospelsGrace.com is a place for daily prayer.
Some of the prayers here are written for the headlines of the week.
